teaching
Courses, workshops and mentoring.
Invited workshops
AACR 34th Annual Molecular Biology in Clinical Oncology Workshop (2026) Invited faculty instructor, Coronado, California. Taught physician-scientists to apply generative AI and large language models to scientific programming, bioinformatics and translational cancer research.
Courses
Análisis de Datos con R para las Ciencias Sociales (2025 to present) Instructor. Asynchronous online course in R programming and applied data analysis for social science researchers, delivered through CIICS.
Differential gene expression analysis using public datasets (2023) Introductory workshop, Cardiogenetics Laboratory, National Pediatric Hospital, Mexico City.
Open teaching material
Learning RNA-seq A concept-first curriculum taking someone with a quantitative background and no molecular biology from what a transcriptome is to interpreting differential expression. Slide decks, a FASTQ-to-counts prequel, and a sandbox for p-values and multiple-testing correction. Built on the public airway dataset. Teaching material CC BY 4.0, so it can be reused and adapted.
Mentoring
Four trainees mentored in bulk and single-cell transcriptomic and epigenomic analysis at the Phang Bioinformatics Shared Resource, CU Anschutz. One has gone on to a PhD in bioinformatics, one to industry, and two were undergraduate researchers.
Since 2015 I have also tutored calculus, chemistry and molecular biology for high school and undergraduate students.
